China has handed over materials for two Bailey bridges to Nepal to support the reconstruction of road connectivity in areas affected by the recent floods.
The Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa had requested the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xizang Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China to provide 30 Bailey bridges for installation in flood-affected areas.
In response to the request, the Government of the Xizang Autonomous Region handed over materials for two Bailey bridges, each measuring 100 metres in length, on september 4, 2026.
A handover and takeover ceremony was held at the Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa. Nepal’s Consul General to Lhasa, Laxmi Prasad Niraula, and Deputy Director General (DDG) Ouyang Zhibing of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xizang Autonomous Region signed the Handover Certificate and exchanged the documents during the ceremony.
Officials from the Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xizang Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China were also present at the ceremony.
According to Consul General Niraula, the materials required for the two Bailey bridges have reached the Korola (Lizi) border point in Upper Mustang and will be received by the Nepali side today.
China has also provided technical personnel to ensure the effective and smooth installation of the bridges. The Chinese technicians are expected to arrive in Nepal soon.
The materials handed over for the bridges include Bailey panels, stiffening cords, sway braces, brace bolts, Bailey pins, decking panels, steel plates, beams, channel steel and pipe-welding materials.
The Bailey bridges are expected to help restore transportation and road connectivity in flood-affected areas where infrastructure has been damaged by the recent disaster.
